Jakarta,Indonesia – The indonesian Navy has bolstered its fleet with two new domestically built fast patrol boats,the KRI Hampala-880 and KRI Lumba-Lumba-881. The vessels were officially commissioned into service during a ceremony at Sunda Kelapa Pier on Tuesday, led by indonesian Navy Chief of Staff, Admiral Muhammad ali.
“The names Hampala and Lumba-Lumba attached to this ship have deep meaning,” Admiral Ali stated. “They reflect a tough, agile, and adaptive character.”
Hampala, a freshwater fish species, symbolizes strength and a high fighting spirit, while Lumba-Lumba, a marine mammal, represents agility, intelligence, and remarkable navigational abilities.
These additions to the fleet are tangible evidence of the Navy’s commitment to modernizing its defense equipment.
Equipped with a 40 mm cannon, a 12.7 mm cannon, and capable of reaching speeds of 24 knots, the KRI Hampala-880 and KRI Lumba-Lumba-881 are designed to support a range of military operations. Their primary roles include maintaining sovereignty, conducting maritime security patrols, executing search and rescue missions, and supporting troop infiltration.
The KRI Hampala-880 will be stationed at the Navy Main Base (Lantamal) XI Merauke under the command of Fleet III, while the KRI Lumba-Lumba-881 will join Lantamal XIII Tarakan under the command of Fleet II.
Built by the domestic shipyard PT Caputra Mitra in Cirebon, West Java, these vessels represent a significant achievement in Indonesia’s shipbuilding capabilities. The KRI Hampala and KRI Lumba-Lumba are the 10th and 11th fast patrol ships constructed by the shipyard, remarkably completed concurrently within a 26-day timeframe.
Following the commissioning ceremony, Admiral Ali, accompanied by other high-ranking navy officials, toured the KRI Hampala and posed for a group photo with the crews of both vessels.
