# Krandegan Village: Indonesia‘s Model for Digital Transformation and Energy Independence

Krandegan, a village in Central Java, ⁢Indonesia, is rapidly becoming a ⁤national benchmark for digital‍ transformation and sustainable growth. Driven by a forward-thinking village head, Dwinanto, and supported by provincial goverment and academic partnerships, Krandegan⁢ is leveraging technology to improve livelihoods, enhance public services, and build a more resilient⁣ community. This article explores the innovative initiatives transforming Krandegan into a model for energy independence and⁣ digital governance across Indonesia.## From Diesel to Digital: Krandegan’s Technological Leap

For years, Krandegan’s farmers relied on costly⁢ and polluting diesel-powered irrigation systems. Recognizing the need for a sustainable and affordable ⁣solution, Dwinanto spearheaded the implementation of a solar-powered irrigation system controlled via a mobile phone submission. This initiative⁣ dramatically reduced ⁣operational costs – from up to ⁢IDR800,000 (S$63) per day for diesel to near zero – while simultaneously promoting environmental sustainability.

“Wiht solar-powered water pumps, the cost we incur is⁤ nearly ⁣zero. The surroundings is cleaner, and farmers are happy,” Dwinanto explains.

This project exemplifies Krandegan’s commitment to practical, impactful technology adoption. Beyond irrigation, the village has⁤ implemented ultrasonic pest repellers, offering a safe and effective⁣ alternative to conventional methods for protecting crops from bird damage. These solutions demonstrate⁣ a focus on enhancing agricultural productivity and farmer well-being.

## Building a Digital Infrastructure for a Connected Community

Krandegan’s transformation extends beyond agriculture. A robust⁤ fibre optic network, built in collaboration with private service providers and partially funded by village ⁢funds,⁤ now blankets the village. This infrastructure underpins a suite of smart village applications, including CCTV surveillance and an early warning system⁢ for disasters and theft, all accessible to residents from their homes.Crucially, this entire system⁤ is integrated into a publicly accessible village dashboard at [krandegan.id](krandegan.id), promoting openness and ⁢citizen engagement. The dashboard provides real-time details and allows⁤ residents to actively participate ⁣in village governance. This ⁤commitment to digital infrastructure demonstrates a proactive approach to community safety and resilience.

### Empowering ⁣Local⁤ Enterprise Through Technology

Krandegan’s innovation ‍doesn’t stop at implementation; it extends to economic empowerment. Dwinanto established the Krandegan Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes), named Karya Muda, which develops and sells village service applications to other communities across Central Java and Indonesia.

“Our BUMDes can now afford its own operational vehicle from app⁢ sales, not from village funds… This is the independence we have built,” Dwinanto proudly states. this self-sustaining model showcases the potential for⁣ villages to generate revenue and achieve financial independence through technology-driven entrepreneurship. Karya Muda’s success is a testament to the village’s ability to not⁢ only adopt⁣ technology but also to innovate and create value.

## Overcoming Challenges: Cultivating ⁤a Digital Culture

While Krandegan has successfully implemented cutting-edge technology, Dwinanto acknowledges the challenge of shifting residents’ ⁣mindsets. Initially, many preferred traditional, manual processes. ⁤

“Some still prefer handling documents manually, even though it can⁣ be completed within 15 minutes via smartphone,” he says.

To address‍ this, the village governance has prioritized education, training, and socialisation sessions, actively involving residents in learning how to use and benefit from⁣ digital tools like the Sipolgan ⁤app – a key component⁢ of the village’s digital ecosystem. These efforts⁤ have yielded extraordinary results, with 800 out of 900 households now actively using the⁤ Sipolgan app.

Dwinanto emphasizes the importance of building a digital culture and equipping residents with the necessary literacy skills to navigate the digital landscape safely and confidently. This holistic approach ensures that technology serves as an enabler for all members⁢ of the community.

## National⁤ Recognition ⁤and a⁣ Model for the Future
