According to footage posted on Chinese social media Weibo, the gas tank in the kitchen exploded, sending up flames and black smoke. The fire quickly spread to the child’s clothes, causing him to panic and run around the house in an attempt to put out the flames.
The grandmother, who was present at the time, was startled by the explosion and ran out the front door in fear instead of helping the child. Fortunately, the child was able to think quickly and doused himself with water from a bucket in the kitchen, pouring it over himself to put out the fire on his clothes.
It is reported that the fire broke out when the child turned on the lighter near a gas canister in the kitchen. The child suffered severe burns and is currently receiving burn treatment in the intensive care unit.
