INPC rises 0.09% biweekly – Annual inflation in Mexico rebounds to 4.63% in the first half of April: Inegi

The entities that had a greater inflationary variation in the first half of April were Michoacán, Tlaxcala, Puebla, State of Mexico and Durango.

Mexico City, April 24 (However).– The National Retail Price Index Consumer (INPC) recorded a rebound 0.09 percent during the first 15 days of April. While the annual general inflation went from 6.24 percent in it quincena of 2023 a 4.63 percent in the of 2024.

According to the most recent report from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), in the same period from last year, the biweekly inflation it was of -0.16 percent.

By components, the annual variations of the underlying and non-core indices were 4.39 and 5.38 percent, respectively. In the same period of the previous year, they were 7.75 and 1.82 percent, in that order.

Within the underlying index, merchandise prices rose 0.24 percent and services prices rose 0.07 percent at a biweekly rate.

The annual change in merchandise went from 9.73 percent in the first half of April 2023 to 3.72 percent in the same month of this year. In that sense, the variation in food, beverages and tobacco (which includes processed foods) was 0.22 percent in a fortnight; while its annual advance stood at 4.85 percent.

The modification of services also had a downward trend in the annual comparison, since it went from 5.42 in 2023 to 5.21 percent in 2024.

Within the non-core index, at a biweekly rate, the prices of agricultural products increased 1.68 percent, while those of energy and tariffs authorized by the Government did the opposite by falling 1.66 percent.

In their annual movement, agricultural workers rose 5.61 percent in 2023 and 6.98 percent in the first half of April 2024.

For their part, energy prices and rates authorized by the Government had an annual variation of 4.01 percent in the first half of April of this year; In the same fifteen days, but from the previous year, it was placed at -1.21 percent.

On the other hand, the entities that had a greater biweekly inflation variation were Michoacán (0.75 percent), Tlaxcala (0.69 percent), Puebla (0.66 percent), State of Mexico (0.62 percent) and Durango (0.62 percent). .

Likewise, the states that had the least variation were Tabasco (-1.42 percent), Coahuila (-1.18 percent), Nuevo León (-1.01 percent), Campeche (-0.98 percent) and Yucatán (-0.95 percent).
