Inter Milan secured their place in the Club World Cup knockout stage with a 2-0 victory over River Plate on Wednesday.The italian side’s late surge, fueled by goals from Francesco Esposito and Alessandro Bastoni, sealed the Group E win and sent the Argentines home.
Esposito, a 19-year-old forward, opened the scoring seven minutes after Lucas Martínez Quarta of River Plate received a red card. Bastoni added a second goal in stoppage time, ensuring inter’s victory in the Club World Cup. The UEFA Champions league finalists finished with seven points.
