Investigation and seizure of Woori Bank headquarters in case of embezzlement of 61.4 billion won in 4 hours

The search and seizure of Woori Bank headquarters, where an employee embezzled 61.4 billion won, was completed in four hours.

The Seoul Namdaemun Police Station raided and searched the Woori Bank headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul for about four hours from 1:50 p.m. to 5:51 p.m. on the 2nd. The house and office of employee A, who was arrested on charges of embezzlement, and his brother’s house and office were also seized and searched on the same day.

The police secured internal accounting books and the PC used by Mr. A at the Woori Bank headquarters through a search and seizure on the same day. The plan is to monitor the flow of money.

In addition, the police said they are planning to look in all directions to see if there is anyone who conspired with Mr. A, both inside and outside the company.

According to the police, the money embezzled by A is part of the down payment due to the failure of the sale of Daewoo Electronics in the past. When Woori Bank, who was belatedly aware of the embezzlement, filed a complaint with the police on the 27th of last month, Mr. A surrendered himself to the police and was arrested on the 30th of last month. A’s younger brother was also arrested the day before on charges of collusion.

During the police investigation, it is known that Mr. A stated that he invested part of the embezzlement in derivatives and his brother’s business. In addition, it is said that a statement to the effect that the withdrawn money flowed into her brother’s account was also secured.

It is estimated that Mr. A’s brother used 8 billion won to acquire a golf course resort development project in New Zealand, and of the 61.4 billion won in the embezzlement, Mr. A used about 50 billion and the younger brother about 10 billion respectively.

The police plan to send Mr. A to the prosecution within this week.
