The prosecution investigating President Yoon Seok-yeol’s wife Kim Kun-hee’s “suspicion of receiving luxury bags” has served prosecutors with a subpoena.
The People Power Party defended it as a “legitimate execution of public power,” while the Democratic Party raised suspicions that it was a “trick to defend the Special Prosecutor’s Act.”

The prosecution has decided to investigate Baek Eun-jong, CEO of the YouTube show “Voice of Seoul”.
It has been five months since “Voice of Seoul”, which published a video of First Lady Kim Kun-hee receiving a luxury bag, accused President Yoon Seok-yeol and his wife of violating the anti-corruption law in December last year.
The date of the meeting is being coordinated.
The civic group that accused Pastor Choi Jae-young, who gave Ms. Kim a luxury bag and secretly filmed the trial, on charges of trespassing decided to investigate on the 9th.
The prosecution’s position is to find out not only why Pastor Choi handed over the luxury bag, but also the authenticity of the bag, which is said to be worth 3 million won.
After the general elections, the assessments of the government and opposition parties on the full-fledged investigation conducted by the prosecutor’s office against the accuser, with the addition of a dedicated prosecutor, were mixed.
The People Power Party defended itself by saying: “The investigation progressed slowly because it was an issue that could influence the general election” and that it was a “legitimate execution of public power”.
On the other hand, the opposition party, which announced the passage of the “Law on the Special Prosecutor of First Lady Kim Kun-hee” in the 22nd National Assembly, raised doubts about the background of the investigation.
The Democratic Party said, “Aren’t they trying to build a justification to reject the appointment of the special prosecutor by at least pretending to conduct a hasty investigation?” and the Democratic Party of Korea also added: “It is fully expected that the result will be that.” nothing, even if a thorough investigation had been conducted.”
The president’s office declined to comment, saying: “It would be inappropriate to comment as the investigation is ongoing.”
Although it seems inevitable that the prosecution will directly investigate Ms. Kim Kun-hee, who received the luxury bag, if President Yoon Seok-yeol knew when she received the luxury bag, he should properly report it, separately from the spouse of a public official who cannot be punished under the anti-corruption law should become an issue in the prosecution’s investigation.
