(Imsil = Yonhap News) Reporters Jeong Gyeong-jae and Na Bo-bae = Mr. A (64), CEO of a medium-sized construction company in Jeonbuk region, disappeared while being investigated by the prosecutor’s office in connection with the Central Saemangeum solar onshore, was found dead in Okjeong Lake, Imsil-gun, on the 28th.

It’s been 13 days since she disappeared.

The Jeonbuk Police Agency announced that after checking the fingerprints on the found body, they found a match with those of Mr. A.

According to police, at 6.47pm this day, a resident who was fishing near Unam Bridge in Okjeong Lake reported that “there was a person floating in the lake”.

Police and firefighters said the body was about 3 meters from shore and could be identified with the naked eye.

The police assumed that the body found was that of Mr. A based on its similarity to Mr. A’s appearance and clothing at the time of his disappearance, and compared his identity.

As a result, it was confirmed that the discovered body matched Mr. A’s fingerprints.

A police official said, “It took some time to check the fingerprints because the body was damaged” and “We plan to get a warrant and conduct an autopsy tomorrow.”

The Unam Bridge is a bridge that crosses Lake Okjeong, and was found 1.2km away in a straight line from a nearby rest area where Mr A’s vehicle was found.

Mr A’s wife reported him missing to the police at 8.40am on the 15th, saying: “My husband left the house after saying he was having a hard time after being investigated by the prosecution.”

Police soon discovered Mr A’s vehicle near Lake Okjeong and also confirmed footage of a presumably missing person walking on the seaside bridge via closed-circuit television.

Mr A’s company was selected as the preferred negotiating partner for the Saemangeum onshore solar power generation project in 2020, but issues surrounding the company’s selection emerged during the Audit and Inspection Board’s audit process last year.

The Board of Audit and Inspection reported that Gunsan City had granted benefits to a specific company that it became aware of during the selection process for the preferred negotiating partner and requested an investigation by public prosecutors.

Until recently, the prosecution conducted a thorough investigation, including the search and seizure of Gunsan City and the company in question, as well as the summoning and interrogation of the people involved.

Furthermore, Mr A is known to have been under financial pressure as management difficulties have worsened due to the recent construction recession caused by rising property prices.
