Invision Expands National Footprint with Acquisition of Macgregor Associates Architects
Invision, an architecture, planning, and interior design firm with a 111-year legacy in Iowa, has expanded its national presence through the acquisition of Atlanta-based Macgregor Associates Architects (MAA). The deal, part of Invision’s national expansion strategy, was finalized on May 22, 2025, according to a company statement.
MAA, founded in 1987, employs 41 professionals and specializes in the design of distribution and fulfillment centers, warehouses, data centers, manufacturing facilities, corporate headquarters, and office buildings. The firm will now operate as Macgregor Associates Architects/An INVISION Studio, retaining its brand legacy, according to Eric Ritland, a partner with Invision who is leading the firm’s merger-and-acquisition efforts.
The acquisition builds upon Invision’s earlier expansion into the Southeast market and strengthens its design expertise across a growing national footprint. Ritland stated that MAA’s “reputation for specialized design services in light industrial facilities and data centers” was a key factor in the decision.
MAA was ranked as the ninth largest industrial-sector architectural firm in the U.S. In 2024, based on 2023 industrial building design revenue, according to Building Design+Construction’s Giants 400 Report. This ranking reflects the firm’s reputation and commitment to its client base, Ritland noted.
Invision is part of The HFW Companies network. The HFW Companies invested in Invision on January 24, 2023, and formed a strategic growth partnership with Kansas City-based architectural firm GastingerWalker on March 2, 2023. The merger with GastingerWalker, effective March 16, united two legacy firms within the HFW Cos. Network, creating a national architectural collective with nearly 200 employees.
The combined Invision now has offices in Des Moines, Waterloo, and Iowa City, Iowa, as well as Jacksonville, Florida, Dallas, Texas, Atlanta, Georgia, and Kansas City, Missouri. Clients will have access to architectural and design expertise in areas including health care, education, workplace design, government facilities, and hospitality. Kansas City will remain a permanent hub within Invision’s national platform, with a commitment to long-term investment and growth of the local team.
GastingerWalker&. is known for its work on iconic Kansas City landmarks such as Starlight Theatre and J. Rieger & Co. Distillery. Invision’s portfolio includes award-winning Iowa projects like the Cedar Falls High School and the UnityPoint Health – Blank Children’s STAR & Developmental Center.
Ritland emphasized the importance of maintaining a commitment to clients throughout the acquisition process, stating, “Our commitment to our clients must be matched through any merger or acquisition.”
