iOS 16.1.1 adds a 10-minute time limit for opening AirDrop to everyone in mainland China

Shanghai, China – October 12, 2011: The glass entrance of the Apple Store on Nanjing road was opened on September 23, 2011. Many people inside and outside the store.

Compared to users in other regions, iOS users in mainland China received one more change in the latest release of version 16.1.1. After the update, the time limit for AirDrop to be open to “everyone” at a time became ten minutes. And by default, the device will not accept any files sent via AirDrop. For this change, some people believe that it can reduce the risk of AirDrop harassment in public places like subways. But since this is a change that is only currently being seen on mainland Chinese models, it’s inevitable to wonder if it has anything to do with the government’s strict censorship requirements.

However, according to Apple’s statement to Bloomberg, AirDrop will also be rolled out worldwide starting next year. It’s not a region-specific feature, it’s supposed to “reduce unwanted file sharing.”
