iOS 26.2 Release Nears, Second Release Candidate Released to Developers and Beta Testers
Apple is finalizing iOS 26.2, having released a second Release Candidate (RC) build – version 23C54 – on December 8, 2023. This indicates that while the software is nearly complete, minor adjustments were deemed necessary following the initial RC build (23C52) released last week.
What is a Release Candidate?
A Release candidate represents the final stage of software development before public release. Typically, changes at this point are limited to critical bug fixes, particularly those addressing security vulnerabilities.While Apple rarely revises RC builds,it does occur when necessary to ensure a stable user experience.
When Will iOS 26.2 Be Available to All Users?
The final public release of iOS 26.2 is anticipated this week. Though, the exact date remains uncertain. depending on the outcome of testing with the current RC, the rollout could begin as early as Tuesday, December 12, 2023, or be delayed until Wednesday or Thursday.
Alongside iOS 26.2, updates to other Apple operating systems are also in the pipeline, including macOS tahoe 26.2, watchOS 26.2, and tvOS 26.2. These updates are expected to follow shortly after the iOS release.
Currently, build 23C54 is available for download by members of the Apple Developer Program and participants in the Apple Beta Testing Program.
