(Tehran = Yonhap News) Correspondent Lee Seung-min = The Iranian government announced that it would not cooperate with a United Nations investigation into allegations of human rights violations in the process of suppressing anti-government protests in the country.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani drew a line in a regular press conference held simultaneously online and offline on the 28th (local time), saying, “We will not cooperate with the team political fact finding formed by the United Nations Human Rights Council.”

“The UN resolution against Iran does nothing to address human rights issues,” Kanani said.

The United Nations Human Rights Council held a special meeting on the 25th and a resolution was passed by vote to form an international fact-finding team to investigate illegalities that occurred in the process of responding to protests in Iran.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk also urged the Iranian government to stop using disproportionate force against protesters.

On this day, Kanani’s spokesman also claimed that anti-government protests were being promoted by Western countries, including the United States, and that he had secured concrete evidence to prove them.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the German ambassador to the country to protest the same day for leading a UN Human Rights Council resolution related to anti-government protests.

In Iran, protests spread across the country in September after it was reported that Iranian woman Mahsa Amini, 22, died suddenly after being taken by police for breaking a dress code, such as showing hair through her hijab .

Iran’s Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) counted that 448 protesters, including 63 minors, lost their lives on the 25th.
