Putin: Iran Declined Russian Air Defense Role Offer

Moscow⁣ – Russian President Vladimir ⁣Putin stated that Iran turned down a Russian proposal for joint work on air defense systems. He added that such systems were not part of the strategic partnership agreement signed by Moscow ⁢and tehran in January.

In a televised interview Wednesday, Putin clarified that the agreement did not extend to defense matters.

Putin said Russia had previously offered Iran collaboration on anti-air systems. “We once proposed to our Iranian friends to work together on anti-air systems, but our partners did not show any great interest,” he said.

Putin also addressed past arms supplies to Iran. “As far as individual supplies are concerned, ⁢yes, of course, we made those at the time, but this has nothing to ⁣do wiht the crisis today,” Putin said, without specifying the ⁢timing of the offer or the supplies.
