McCarthy, Pazzaia Secure Bronze in European Rowing Championships
Ireland’s Fintan McCarthy and Konan Pazzaia powered their way to a bronze medal in the men’s double sculls at the European Rowing Championships in Plovdiv. The Irish duo finished with a time of 6:05.48.
McCarthy, a Skibbereen rower, achieved his first heavyweight medal, while Pazzaia, representing Queen’s University, earned his first major medal. Pazzaia stepped in for Paul O’Donovan.
Poland’s Miroslaw Zietarski and Mateusz Biskup clinched the gold, with Romania taking silver.

Earlier in the competition, Mags Cremin and Zoe Hyde finished fourth in the women’s double sculls with a time of 6:55.73. Roos de Jong and Tessa Dullemans of the Netherlands secured the gold.
Izzy Clements, making her senior Irish debut, also finished fourth in the women’s lightweight single sculls.
Jake mccarthy, Fintan’s brother, narrowly missed a medal, also finishing fourth in the lightweight men’s single sculls in 7:01.45. Fabio Kress of Germany won gold, followed by Halil Kaan Koroglu of Turkey.
