Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba announced Saturday his intention to establish a council focused on promoting regional revitalization through private sector initiatives. The plan, revealed during discussions with reporters in Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture, will be incorporated into his signature “Regional Revitalization 2.0” program.
The proposed council will operate under Ishiba’s direct supervision,with the core concept expected to be finalized this summer.Ishiba emphasized the importance of public-private cooperation in regional revitalization, drawing inspiration from Maebashi’s ongoing efforts.
“We’ll consider the possibility of revising related laws while learning from the efforts being made in Maebashi,” Ishiba said, aiming to accelerate community progress through these partnerships. He also visited Jins Park, a local interaction hub featuring an eyeglasses store operated by Jins Holdings.
During his visit to the complex, Ishiba sampled pastries and tried on Jins brand glasses. “This is a very nice facility,” he remarked.
