Israeli Forces Recover Bodies of Hostages in Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister​ Benjamin Netanyahu announced⁤ Thursday ​the recovery of the bodies‌ of two Israeli-American hostages, Judy Weinstein-Hagi, 70, and gadi ‌Hagi, 72. The couple, from kibbutz Nir Oz near the Gaza border, were dual ‍citizens; Judy also held Canadian citizenship.

The ​Israel Defense ⁤Forces (IDF) and⁢ the Israel Security Agency (Shin bet) conducted a ‍special operation in the Khan Younis area of southern ⁣Gaza ​Strip ‍to recover the remains, Netanyahu said.The couple was killed during Hamas‘ Oct. 7, 2023, attack, their bodies then abducted.

The IDF persistent the couple was ‍killed on the day ⁤of the Hamas ⁣attack by kitab al-Mujahidin, the same group that killed Shiri Bibas and her ⁣two children.

Netanyahu⁤ vowed to continue efforts to recover⁤ all hostages. “We will⁣ not rest or ‌be silent until ‌we ​return all of our abductees home — the living ‌and the dead alike,” Netanyahu said.

According to ‍the prime minister’s office, ​56 hostages remain in‍ Gaza.‍ Twenty are believed to be alive. Among the 36 believed dead are two americans, Itay ⁣Chen and ‍Omer Neutra.
