US Approves $3.5 Billion Apache Helicopter Sale to Israel
The United States government approved a $3.5 billion sale of 30 Apache attack helicopters to Israel on January 31, 2026. Israeli forces have utilized Apache helicopters in attacks against Palestinians, including during ongoing conflict in Gaza.
The sale includes the helicopters themselves, and also related equipment and services. According to a statement from the U.S. Department of State, the sale is intended to bolster Israel’s defensive capabilities.
Critics of the sale point to the use of Apache helicopters in civilian areas of Gaza. Human rights organizations have documented instances where thes helicopters were involved in attacks resulting in civilian casualties.
The approval comes amidst heightened international scrutiny of Israel’s military actions in Gaza. The conflict, which began on October 7, 2023, has resulted in over 26,000 Palestinian deaths as of January 30, 2026, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
