Israel Proposes 45-Day Ceasefire in Exchange for Hostage Release; Hamas Reviews Offer

Jakarta ‌- Israel has reportedly offered Hamas a 45-day ceasefire ⁢in Gaza in‍ exchange for the release of‌ half of the remaining⁣ hostages,⁣ according‍ to a Hamas official. ‍The‍ proposal ⁣is currently under ⁤review by Hamas leaders.

key Conditions and Hamas’ Response

According to AFP, the core of the dispute lies in Israel’s demand that Hamas disarm, a⁣ condition the Palestinian militant group considers a ‍”red line.” The Hamas official, ⁢speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that Israel is demanding the dismantling of Hamas’s weapons arsenal as a prerequisite for a permanent ‍end to the Gaza war.

The proposed agreement,as conveyed by mediators, includes the release of half of the hostages during the first week of⁤ the ⁤ceasefire. The extension of the ceasefire, lasting at least‌ 45 days, would also ‍allow for increased humanitarian ‍aid⁤ to enter Gaza.

“The proposal⁤ includes the launching of⁤ Hamas weapons and all Palestinian armed ‌factions in the Gaza Strip as a ⁤condition to end the war‌ permanently,” the official said.

hamas’ Stance on Disarmament

While Hamas leaders are considering the ceasefire proposal, the demand for disarmament remains a significant obstacle. “The position of Hamas and resistance factions is a weapon⁣ of resistance is a red line and cannot be negotiated,” the official reiterated.

Worsening Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

The united Nations has issued ⁤stark warnings about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, citing weeks ‍without adequate aid reaching‌ the region. The UN reports critical shortages of medical supplies, fuel, water, and other essential resources.

According to the UN Office ⁢for⁤ Coordinating ⁢Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha), “The current humanitarian situation is⁤ likely to ⁢be the worst in 18 months⁤ since the outbreak⁤ of hostility.” Aid workers are reportedly being‍ forced to ration dwindling supplies.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Farah, at ⁣Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, described the medical ‌team’s relentless⁤ efforts amidst severe⁤ shortages.

Hamas Official Suggests Potential Hostage Release for End to War

Taher al-Nunu, a senior Hamas official, has indicated a willingness to release all hostages if Israel guarantees an end to the war.”The ‍problem is not the number of prisoners,” Nunu stated. ”But ⁣the occupation (Israel) denies its commitment, blocking the implementation of the⁢ ceasefire ⁣agreement and continuing the war.”

Al-Nunu emphasized to Egyptian and Qatari mediators that Hamas would not surrender⁣ its weapons.

Report: US Guarantees Sought for Second ⁣Phase⁣ of Ceasefire

According to the Israeli news⁤ site‌ Ynet, a new ceasefire proposal suggests Hamas would release 10 ⁢living hostages in ‌exchange for U.S. guarantees that ⁢Israel will enter negotiations for the second phase of the ceasefire.
