On FlyDubai Flight 1073 traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv, an Israeli dentist named Dr. Shota Musaev helped save the life of the jet’s captain after he was attacked inside the cabin. An unidentified co-pilot allegedly attacked Capt. Smit Machchhar with a knife during the flight, according to Israeli officials.
When Musaev and a group of passengers rushed to the cockpit from row 13, he found the captain on the floor bleeding from wounds to his head, neck, and hands. Musaev immediately began applying pressure to stop the bleeding while reassuring the pilot, who told him, Help me, please. Help me, please. I don’t want to die here.
Cockpit Struggle and Subduing the Suspect
During the attack, the suspect took the plane into a nose dive in an attempt to crash it. Another passenger, Yaniv Hayun, dragged the suspect from the cockpit, took control of the aircraft, and leveled it before a third pilot took over and flew the jet to Saudi Arabia.
After the plane was leveled, Musaev and another passenger tied the suspect’s hands using headphones. Musaev recounted that the suspect said little other than claiming he was from Oman and asking to be killed. Once he had been subdued, caught, he didn’t resist,
Musaev said.
Passengers Receive Treatment After Landing in Saudi Arabia
The entire ordeal lasted around 40 minutes before landing in Saudi Arabia, where passengers received medical treatment. Musaev reflected on the gravity of the incident, stating that they were just seconds away from dying.
Captain Machchhar received treatment at a local hospital in Saudi Arabia before being transferred to a hospital in the United Arab Emirates. The Indian ambassador stated that the captain was speaking openly, smiling, and laughing. The co-pilot is currently in custody in Abu Dhabi, according to officials from Saudi Arabia.
