Footage of the incident shows a heated exchange of expletives between O’Mahony and Dr. Downes prior to the ejection, carried out by a group of five individuals. O’mahony believes the incident was “planned,” noting Dr. Downes had publicly stated his intention to protest Pappe’s appearance.
While O’Mahony filed a statement with Gardaí at Henry Street station, he declined to press criminal charges, citing concerns he would be “painted as the aggressor.” A video of the incident was afterward posted on the Instagram account of Al Jazeera, reaching an audience of over six million followers.

But this is all to distract from what is going on in Palestine, what Israel is doing,” she stated.
