(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Do-yeon = Last December, Ayman Rubard, a resident of northern Gaza, knelt on the cold street wearing only his underwear, surrounded by Israeli soldiers holding M16 rifles.

Next to him, dozens of Palestinian men and boys were kneeling in a row, also wearing only their underwear.

Israeli soldiers shouted at them through loudspeakers, “We occupy the entire Gaza Strip. Is this what you wanted? Did you want to be with Hamas? Aren’t you Hamas?”

In response, the kneeling men shouted no with their hands on their heads, and one of them said loudly, “I’m only a day laborer.”

But the Israeli soldiers shouted again, “Shut up!”

On the 23rd (local time), the New York Times (NYT) reported that Palestinians, like Rubard, who have been held by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip for the past three months have been stripped of their clothes, beaten, questioned, and kept in custody without any communication with the outside world The report referred to the testimony of relatives and related photos and videos.

After Israel was surprised by the armed Palestinian political faction Hamas on October 7 last year, the Israeli army launched a ground war against the Gaza Strip, the stronghold of Hamas, and captured and detained thousands of Gaza residents, including men, women, and children.

Some of them stayed at home, while others were caught going to safer areas following orders from the Israeli authorities to evacuate.

Photos and videos taken by Israeli war reporters and the Israeli military showed Palestinians who were kept kneeling outdoors in the winter with their hands tied behind their backs. They sometimes wore a mask and wore underwear.

In a video filmed in a stadium in Gaza City, dozens of men wearing only underwear march in a line, surrounded by Israeli soldiers.

Among them, there was an adult man with white hair and a young boy. There were women there, but they were all dressed.

Pictures taken by reporters in the Gaza Strip show these prisoners being released from the Israeli army and receiving treatment in a hospital, showing deep wounds and abrasions to the skin on their wrists from being tied up for up to several a week.

Rubard, an activist with the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) in Gaza, said he had been detained for a week.

His hands were tied with a rope and the rope was digging into his hands. He said residents were blindfolded and forced into trucks and soldiers beat them. In that condition, the prisoners were taken to Israel.

After arriving at the prison in Beerseva, southern Israel, we were given gray tracksuits. Each person was given a blue tag with a number on it, and guards called prisoners by number instead of name.

Rubard was held in a large barracks for three days, where prisoners were forced to kneel in painful positions from 5 am until midnight. He said he was punished if he tried to change his position.

A few days later he was transferred to a detention center in Jerusalem, where he was interrogated.

Interrogators asked him where he had been on October 7 last year, whether he had any information about Hamas or another militant group in Gaza, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), and about Hamas tunnels or bases.

When Rubard said he didn’t know anything and was mostly at work or at home, the interrogator is said to have become angry and hit him under the eyes, then put the blindfold back on and tied it so tight until it hurts.

Another prisoner, Majdi Al Darini (50), gave similar evidence.

He was caught while traveling south with his family after receiving an evacuation order last November. He was detained for 40 days with his hands tied most of the time, and he came a wound on his wrist that became infected.

“They treated us like animals,” he said, adding, “They hit us with sticks and swore at us.”

Rushdi al-Tata, 31 years old from Gaza City, was caught by Israeli forces and taken into a truck with his wife and other men in underwear.

“They hit us on the head with their weapons,” Al-Tata said. “They swore at my wife, telling her to ‘shut up’.”

After 25 days locked up, he was taken by bus to Kerem Shalom, on the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip. When he got off the bus, a soldier told him a sniper was watching and told him to run for 10 minutes.

Al-Tada said, “I ran for 10 minutes without turning my head.” He was released, but his wife is still missing.

Previously, on the 19th, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said that Palestinian men released by Israel had been subjected to unfair treatment, including beatings and torture, and noted that such treatment “could amount to to torture.”

Human rights group officials also criticize Israel’s treatment of prisoners, saying it may be in violation of international law.

Several Palestinian human rights groups, including Adamir, a Palestinian prisoner support group, said, “Israeli forces have arrested hundreds of Palestinians in an unprecedented and barbaric manner,” adding, “They are hiding the location of prisoners in the Gaza Strip, without revealing the number of prisoners , and provide lawyers and lawyers “We also blocked visits from the Red Cross,” he stressed.

However, in response to this controversy, the Israeli army insisted that it treats prisoners in accordance with international law, detaining those suspected of being involved in terrorist activities and releasing those whose charges have been cleared.

Regarding the removal of the men’s outer clothing, he added, “This is to check if they are hiding explosive vests or other weapons,” and he added, “If possible, prisoners receive their clothes back.”
