Palestinian health officials reported that at least eight people, including an eight-year-old girl, were killed by Israeli military strikes and gunfire across the Gaza Strip on October 10, 2026. The strikes coincided with the one-year anniversary of the October 2025 ceasefire brokered by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar, as residents continued to face displacement and widespread shortages.

Casualties and Ongoing Military Strikes across Gaza

Medical sources cited by almodon.com indicated that four people were killed when an Israeli drone struck a gathering of citizens near Haider Abdel Shafi roundabout west of Gaza City. Witnesses told the Anadolu agency that the drone launched at least one missile toward the gathering in a densely populated area filled with residents and passersby. An eight-year-old girl, identified as Shahd Abdul Razzaq al-Najjar, was killed by drone fire in the Jawazat area, alongside casualties reported in Gaza City’s Tuffah neighborhood and Khan Yunis. Additional reporting from bbc.com noted that five people died in northern Gaza during a 24-hour window, with one fatality in the central sector and another in the south.

Rescue and medical personnel documented further injuries across multiple districts. An emergency services source told almodon.com that a child was shot by Israeli forces west of Gaza City, while a young man was killed on Yafa Street. In the southern city of Khan Yunis, a man succumbed to wounds sustained from a drone strike that hit a displaced persons tent in the al-Mawasi area.

The Gaza Ministry of Health announced on Saturday that ten martyrs and 65 injured individuals arrived at sector hospitals over a 48-hour period, bringing the total toll since October 7, 2023, to 74,370 martyrs and 175,371 injured.

Humanitarian Conditions and Displacement One Year After Truce

The latest violence unfolded as residents marked one year since the US-brokered ceasefire took effect on October 10, 2025. Annahar.com reported that while Israel reduced the frequency of its attacks compared to the period before the agreement, it maintains control over approximately 70 percent of the territory and carries out near-daily strikes. According to bbc.com, Israeli forces have killed more than 1,460 people in Gaza since the ceasefire was declared.

The ongoing conflict has left the humanitarian infrastructure severely degraded. Data from the Gaza Ministry of Health published by almodon.com showed that 25 out of 38 hospitals and 103 out of 157 primary healthcare centers are out of service. Meanwhile, the United Nations warned that over 13 percent of the population lives in flood-prone displacement sites or unsafe buildings, while food aid programs face critical funding shortages affecting the distribution of hot meals and monthly rations.

The UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) declared a state of famine in Gaza in August 2025. The latest available data, dating back to July, shows that 1,4 million شخص من أصل نحو 2,1 مليون نسمة suffer from acute food insecurity, including 200,000 people who are just one step away from famine. Alongside dry food items, wheat flour, and bread, the lack of sufficient dietary diversity continues to pose a health threat.

Medical Evacuations and Regional Diplomatic Discussions

Health data indicates that 2,480 patients and wounded individuals managed to leave Gaza for medical treatment abroad between February 2 and September 2, 2026, following the limited reopening of the Rafah crossing. Meanwhile, 20,719 people remain on waiting lists, including 6,056 priority medical cases, approximately خمسة آلاف طفل, and 1,800 elderly individuals.

On the political front, a delegation from Hamas headed by West Bank chief Zaher Jabarin traveled to Cairo for consultations regarding national dialogue initiatives, according to bbc.com. Discussions run parallel to stalled international plans, including the proposed deployment of an international stabilization force involving خمس دول that has not yet commenced operations on the ground.
