Israel’s aggressive military actions in Gaza and across the Middle East are escalating regional instability and raising fears of a broader global conflict, according to international observers and officials speaking at recent forums.

The ongoing violence in Gaza, described by multiple sources as genocide, has resulted in widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and schools and has led to significant loss of life, particularly among women and children. These actions have been condemned by human rights organizations and international leaders.

Israeli military operations have expanded beyond Gaza into Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Iran, with airstrikes and incursions conducted under the justification of national security. This expansion has intensified regional tensions and drawn concern from neighboring states.

At the 17th Al Jazeera Forum in Doha on February 7, 2026, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that Israel’s campaign in Gaza constitutes not merely war but the deliberate destruction of civilian life on a massive scale, labeling it genocide. He stated that the violence has “wounded the conscience of humanity” and exposed the failure of global powers to prevent attacks on civilians.

What we are witnessing in Gaza is not merely war… It is the deliberate destruction of civilian life on a massive scale. It is genocide.

Araghchi further emphasized that the Palestinian struggle represents “the defining question of justice in West Asia and beyond” and serves as “the strategic and moral compass of the region,” warning that Israel’s actions are undermining the global legal order and accelerating the collapse of international norms.

Regional analysts note that the conflict’s repercussions are reshaping power balances across the Middle East, with spillover effects affecting maritime routes such as the Bab al-Mandeb and increasing instability in parts of Africa, where external powers are increasingly vying for influence amid the broader Israel-Iran rivalry.

Data from conflict monitoring groups indicate that of the nearly 489,500 fatalities recorded globally from political violence since October 7, 2023, approximately 14% have occurred in Gaza, underscoring the disproportionate impact of the ongoing hostilities.

International bodies, including UN special rapporteurs, have characterized Israel’s actions in Gaza as part of a broader pattern of collective violence, with reports describing the situation as a collective crime requiring urgent accountability and intervention.

As diplomatic efforts continue to falter and military engagements persist, officials warn that the unchecked escalation risks triggering a wider confrontation with far-reaching consequences for global peace and security.
