‘It is the pride of not only Bengal but the country’, Mamata Banerjee asks PM to send Ganguly to ICC | “It is the pride of not only Bengal, but the country”: Mamata Banerjee asks PM to send Ganguly to ICC

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to send Sourav Ganguly, who was sacked as the chairman of the Board of Cricket in India (BCCI), to the International Cricket Council (ICC). She was talking to reporters at the Kolkata airport.

“He was expelled. What did he do wrong? I am very sad. I am really shocked. Sourav is a well-known person. He was the captain of the Indian team. He is the pride of not only Bengal but the nation. Why the he was banned in such an unfair manner. My request to the Prime Minister is to allow Sourav to contest the ICC elections. “Request. We ask the government not to take this as revenge or politics. Make a decision for the sake of cricket and the sport,” he insisted.

Nomination papers for the post of ICC Chairman will be submitted on October 20. If he wants to contest for the post of ICC President, the Indian Cricket Board has to recommend him. The support he gets from the BCCI is important for that.

Former Indian cricketer Roger Binny will replace Ganguly as BCCI chairman. Meanwhile, Amit Shah’s son Jaysha will continue as secretary. There was widespread protest against Ganguly’s ban.
