BRESCIA, Italy (April 26, 2025) – British athlete Lewis Church took the lead in the decathlon after the first day of the 38th Multistars international competition in Brescia. The event also serves as an Italian stage of the World Circuit of Multiple Tests.
Church Seizes Lead in Decathlon
Church amassed 4,117 points, securing his top position after the high jump, the fourth event of the day. Switzerland’s Simon Ehammer, the indoor world gold medalist from last season, trails closely behind with 4,091 points.Ehammer struggled in the long jump, his favored event, managing only a 6.61-meter jump after two failed attempts.
Italian Cerrato in Close Pursuit
Andrea Cerrato of Atl. Fossano ’75, representing Italy, currently holds third place with 4,058 points. Cerrato posted the fastest time in the 400-meter race, clocking in at 48.31 seconds, narrowly beating Ehammer (48.43 seconds). The 26-year-old Cerrato, the reigning Italian indoor champion, also achieved a personal best in the shot put with a distance of 13.35 meters.
Nino Portmann, another swiss athlete, is in fourth place with 4,047 points. Lorenzo Naidon (fiamme Gialle) sits in seventh with 3,979 points, adn Lorenzo mellano (Atl. Fossano ’75) is eighth with 3,861 points, rounding out the Italian contingent in the top eight.
Italinna Leads Heptathlon
In the heptathlon, Finland’s Italinna leads with 3,488 points. She excelled in both the 100-meter hurdles (13.68 seconds) and the 200-meter sprint (24.27 seconds).
Junior Lucia Acklin of Switzerland is chasing with 3,449 points, followed by Hanna Van Bast from the Netherlands (3,440) and Betty Marie Jensen of Denmark (3,405). Italian champion Sara Chiaratti is currently in thirteenth place with 3,146 points, while Marta Giale Giovannini is fifteenth with 3,104 points.
Maniscalco Victorious in Rieti
Elsewhere, Tommaso Maniscalco (Army) won the 500-meter race in Rieti with a time of 1:00.68. Francesco De Santis (Studentque Rieti Milandi) finished second in 1:00.83.
Other Notable performances
Edoardo Scotti (carabinieri) ran the 200 meters in 21.12 seconds in Modena. At the Junior meeting in Conegliano, Lorenza De Noni (Atl. Silca Conegliano) clocked 1:28.41 in the 600 meters. Alessia Succo (Atl. Settimese) ran the 100 meters in 11.60 seconds in Ovada.
