The state-owned resort developer Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) has launched a comprehensive renovation project for The Nusa Dua in Bali, representing the most significant transformation of the area since its development began in 1973. The project focuses on upgrading basic infrastructure and public spaces to maintain the resort’s standing as a luxury destination.
According to an announcement made on March 2, 2026, the renovation plan spans from 2026 to 2028. The first phase of the work is expected to take approximately 210 working days. The primary objective of this initial phase is the overhaul of basic infrastructure, specifically the resurfacing of roads that the company stated have not been properly maintained for a long period.
In addition to roadwork, ITDC plans to update lighting and pedestrian pathways throughout the resort. These infrastructure improvements are scheduled to begin at Peninsula Park.
Public Space and Environmental Upgrades
The renovation extends to the improvement of public spaces covering an area of approximately 350 hectares. This effort includes the enhancement of landscaping elements, walking areas, and gardens. As part of the aesthetic updates, ITDC intends to install new statues featuring Balinese motifs.
The developer is also upgrading the environmental management of the resort. ITDC announced plans to improve the waste management system in Nusa Dua by implementing separate collection, sorting, and recycling. To support this system, the company mentioned the creation of a dedicated facility covering up to 5,000 square meters.
Water sustainability is another core component of the resort’s recent developments. The ITDC reported that a seawater desalination project using reverse osmosis has become operational. Over a three-month period, the project produced approximately 331,000 cubic meters of fresh water.
Tourism Infrastructure and Market Positioning
The Nusa Dua operates as an integrated resort area that includes approximately 5,500 rooms distributed across 22 premium villas and five-star hotels. As part of the current upgrades, ITDC plans to refurbish the Water Blow viewpoint, improving both the infrastructure and general access to the site.
A specific goal of the Water Blow refurbishment is to strengthen the wedding tourism sector. The developer aims to achieve this by updating ceremony venues and creating a more visible entrance to the area.
These physical upgrades coincide with a strategic effort to maintain high occupancy rates amid global volatility. On April 20, 2026, Troy Reza Warokka, the Operations Director at the ITDC Nusa Dua, stated that while geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East may impact travel in the short and medium term, the destination remains fully operational and welcoming.
There will definitely be an impact. At the very least, it could be a decrease in tourists from the Middle East.Troy Reza Warokka, Operations Director at the ITDC Nusa Dua
Warokka noted that Notice concerns regarding a potential decline in visitors from the Middle East, as well as travelers from Africa and North and South America who frequently rely on Middle Eastern layovers.
Despite these concerns, hotel occupancy data for Nusa Dua has remained stable. Warokka reported that occupancy rates in the first quarter of 2026 were higher than they were during the same period in 2025. He attributed this stability to strong traffic from three specific markets: Australia, China, and India.
If you look now, there is actually quite high traffic from three countries, namely Australia, China, and India. This resulted in occupancy rates in Nusa Dua in the first quarter of this year being higher than they were last month in 2025.Troy Reza Warokka, Operations Director at the ITDC Nusa Dua
The ITDC leadership indicated that the resort will pivot its strategies to continue thriving despite the economic and political adversities currently affecting global travel.
