Jacqueline “Jackie” Falk, the older daughter of actor Peter Falk, best known for his role as Lieutenant Columbo, died Monday by suicide, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
She was 60 years old and died at her Los Angeles residence. The case remains open, as of Wednesday, according to the Medical Examiner’s website.
The Los Angeles Times reported the death Wednesday, publishing a photograph of Falk with her father at the 50th Emmy Awards in 1998.
Peter Falk, who died in June 2011 at the age of 83 and his first wife, Alyce Mayo, adopted Jackie and her sister, Catherine. The couple married in 1960 and divorced in 1976, but remained close, according to Catherine Falk.
“I remember watching my mom and dad laugh and tell stories about their college years,”
Catherine Falk told Closer magazine in 2023.
Catherine Falk also recalled that her father enjoyed taking both of his daughters to movie premieres, set visits, and ice skating.
The Los Angeles Times was unable to obtain further information about Jackie Falk’s death Wednesday, citing staffing issues at the medical examiner’s public information office.
Peter Falk’s career spanned more than 50 years, encompassing film, stage, and television. He achieved widespread acclaim for his portrayal of the seemingly unassuming but persistently insightful Lieutenant Columbo.
