Kinston, N.C. — Two employees of the Lenoir County prison have been arrested after allegedly providing drugs to inmates instead of ensuring their safety.
The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrests of Shaniqua Reed, 37, of Magnolia, and LaDarius Hines, 26, of kinston.

Reed worked as a medical technician at the jail, while Hines was a detention officer. Both are accused of introducing drugs into the detention center.

Examination and Arrest
Both Reed and Hines were arrested Wednesday, March 26, following a criminal investigation by the prison governance and narcotics detectives.
The investigation revealed that the two were allegedly supplying drugs to inmates.
Reed was arrested at the detention center for narcotics posession. Hines, who did not report to work that day, is accused of conspiring to distribute illegal substances among the prisoners. Authorities expressed concern over drug use within the facility.
