Jakarta, July 12, 2025 - As Indonesia navigates what should be the dry season, the Meteorology, Climatology, and geophysics Agency (BMKG) is issuing a stark warning: complacency is not an option. Despite the calendar indicating the dry season, atmospheric dynamics are creating a complex weather pattern, wiht important portions of the archipelago still experiencing moderate to heavy rain, thunder, and strong winds.
West Java and Banten Face Lingering Showers
Residents in several key areas of West Java and Banten can expect continued rainfall in the coming days. In West Java, Bogor Regency is forecast to experience light rain showers from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM WIB. This wet weather is also likely to affect Bogor City, Depok City, Bekasi Regency, and Bekasi City between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM WIB. Temperatures in Bogor Regency are expected to hover around 18-32 degrees Celsius, while other affected areas will see temperatures ranging from 20-33 degrees Celsius. Gentle breezes of 6-10 kilometers per hour are anticipated.
Meanwhile,Banten will also see its share of precipitation, with light rain likely across Tangerang Regency,Tangerang City, and South Tangerang City. The temperature in these Banten locales is projected to be between 23-32 degrees Celsius.
A “Wet Dry Season” Phenomenon
The BMKG’s assessment reveals that only about 30 percent of indonesia’s seasonal zones have officially entered the dry season by the end of June. This means a substantial majority of the country, particularly Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua, still face the potential for significant rainfall. These regions could experience moderate to heavy rain, often accompanied by thunder and strong winds over the next week.
“The public must remain vigilant, even though according to the calendar, we are in the dry season. Do not be complacent, the weather can change quickly and have a significant impact,” the BMKG emphasized in a press release on Saturday.
Understanding the atmospheric Drivers
The current weather patterns are attributed to complex atmospheric dynamics. These include the persistent formation of convective or rain clouds, the influence of equatorial Rossby and Kelvin waves, and the presence of convergence zones and wind convergence. Furthermore, the potential for cyclonic circulation around the Indian and Pacific Oceans continues to play a role in driving the formation of widespread rain clouds.
This phenomenon, frequently enough described as a “wet dry season,” underscores the importance of staying informed about weather updates. The BMKG’s advisory serves as a crucial reminder that even during traditionally drier months, the risk of extreme weather and related disasters remains a tangible concern for communities across Indonesia.
