Jamaat got permission to hold rally in Dhaka

“”> Jamaat-e-Islami finally got permission to hold a rally in Dhaka. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has allowed Jamaat-e-Islami to hold a rally at Ramnar Engineers Institution auditorium on Saturday (June 10) at 2 pm.

Jamaat-e-Islam’s Dhaka Metropolitan North Publicity Secretary Mu.Ataur Rahman Sarkar confirmed this information to Ajker newspaper.

When contacted later, DMP’s Joint Commissioner (Operations) Biplap Kumar Sarkar confirmed the permission. He said, ‘Permission has been given verbally. However, no written permission has been given yet.’

Earlier on Friday (June 9) in an event at Rabindra Sarovar of Dhanmondi Lake in the capital, Commissioner of DMP Khandkar Golam Farooq said that the DMP will give a decision on whether Jamaat-e-Islami will get permission to hold a rally in Dhaka or not by Friday night or Saturday morning.

In response to the questions of the journalists regarding the permission of Jamaat assembly, the DMP Commissioner said, ‘You know, Jamaat has a past history. They have tortured the police. Their names came in various bombing incidents. They did not come out for a long time. Now they want to hold public meetings.’

Ghulam Farooq said, ‘Jamaat has applied to DMP for permission for the assembly. They want to hold a rally at the north gate of National Mosque Baitul Mukarram on Saturday afternoon. We have sought information from various intelligence agencies whether the Jamaat will hold a peaceful rally or not. We got the information.’

It should be noted that Jamaat-e-Islami is making full preparations to enter the field politics again. As part of this, the party wants to hold a rally on June 10.

For twelve years, at various times, ministers and senior leaders of the Awami League government have spoken in favor of banning Jamaat-e-Islami. Banning of Jamaat-e-Islami is only a matter of time – some ministers have also said this.

A delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami lawyers went to the DMP commissioner’s office on May 29 to seek permission to hold a rally. DMP Detective Police (DB) arrested some Jamaat leaders when they sought permission from the DMP Commissioner for the rally on June 5. But soon they were released. The assembly was not allowed. Later, Jamaat-e-Islami sought permission for the rally on June 10.
