James Gunn Superman Update: Man of Tomorrow Development
James Gunn Already Finished the Script for ‘Superman’ Sequel, ‘Man of Tomorrow‘
despite the recent announcement of a 2027 release date for the Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, many were surprised by how quickly it came after the first film’s success. Typically, sequels don’t receive release dates until meaningful growth work has begun. However, it turns out James Gunn was well ahead of the game.
Responding to a fan on Threads, Gunn revealed that the entire script for Man of Tomorrow is already written, though currently undergoing extensive revisions. He stated, “All of it.Just in the necessary and lengthy stage [of] rewriting and rewriting some more. It’s been a lot of fun.”
This explains why the DC team was comfortable announcing a title and release date so soon after Superman hit theaters. Unlike other sequels, like the upcoming Lilo & Stitch follow-up which doesn’t even have a script yet, Man of Tomorrow is already well into the development process. It begs the question: when did Gunn find the time to write it?
