James McClean Rips ‘Unacceptable’ Derry City Attitude in FAI Cup Final Defeat

Drogheda United stunned Derry City in the FAI Cup final, winning the match despite Derry City’s high expectations. James McClean criticized his team’s performance, stating it seemed like they expected to simply show up and win. This unacceptable attitude was deeply felt by the homegrown players, who are likely to be hurting for a while.

Key Points:

• Match Result: Drogheda United won the FAI Cup final.
• Player Reaction: Derry City players, especially homegrown players, are upset and hurt over their performance.
• Criticism: James McClean expressed frustration, suggesting the team did not prepare adequately for the game.

Drogheda United’s victory marked a ridiculous achievement for their squad, as highlighted by Kevin Doherty, who emphasized the team’s remarkable win two years after facing one of the lowest moments in their career history. Shane Farrell also reflected on the win, having savored the moment after experiencing a low point two years prior[1][2].

Despite their recent FAI Cup glory, Drogheda United still need a happy ending to their story to round out the season on a high note.
