◀ Again ▶

Another 6.6 magnitude earthquake occurred in Japan last night.

Recently, strong earthquakes have occurred sporadically across Japan.

In particular, this earthquake was so strong that it was also felt in Busan, Korea, and it lasted a long time, prompting a series of reports from citizens.

Correspondent Hyun Young-jun reports from Tokyo.

A magnitude 6.6 earthquake occurred last night in Ehime Prefecture, in southwestern Japan, around 11pm.

It was the first time since 1919 that an earthquake of magnitude 6 or greater had occurred in this area. Items on convenience store shelves broke or fell from the impact, and bottles of liquor sold in bars shattered.

“It was a really big shock. It seemed quite long to me. I think it was about 30 seconds. ”

Mountain roads were closed to traffic due to falling rocks, and damage continued throughout Ehime and Kochi prefectures, including fallen streetlights and broken water pipes.

Eight residents have been injured so far, but no deaths have been confirmed.

While the tremors continued so long and strong that they were also felt in Busan, in our country, the frightened residents left their homes in the middle of the night and took refuge.

In particular, the area around Ehime Prefecture where the earthquake occurred was located in the so-called “Nankai Trough” area, where large earthquakes are expected in the future, so the anxiety was even greater.

“The magnitude of this earthquake is lower than the standard for considering the occurrence of an earthquake in the Nankai Valley.”

The Japanese government said no anomalies had been reported at nuclear facilities, including the Ikata nuclear power plant located in Ehime Prefecture.

This year, earthquakes of magnitude 6 or higher occur once a month in various parts of Japan, so travelers visiting Japan need to be especially careful.
