The Unexpected Journey of Satsuki Fujisawa: From Olympic Glory to the ‘MOLA CUP’

Japanese Curling Star Finds Herself in Uncharted Territory

Satsuki Fujisawa, the 32-year-old Japanese curler who clinched the silver medal at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, is now making headlines due to her unconventional pursuits. Known for her captivating rivalry with Kim Eun-jung, fondly called “Senior Glasses,” during the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics, Fujisawa has taken an unexpected turn.

According to Japan’s Nikkan Sports, Fujisawa participated in the ‘MOLA CUP’, a fitness competition held in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture, on the 22nd of February. She impressively secured third place in the bikini class and second place in the open class.

The event’s host, ‘Fitness World Japan’ (FWJ), released a captivating highlight video of Fujisawa on YouTube on the 23rd. Notably, the video showcased Fujisawa confidently sporting a green bikini while exhibiting her strong and muscular physique, a stark contrast to her youthful and cute image during the PyeongChang Olympics.

Ahead of the Beijing Winter Olympics: Rivals Take Center Stage

As the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics approaches, all eyes are on the rivalry between Kim Eun-jung, skip of ‘Team Kim,’ and Fujisawa Satsuki, skip of the Japanese national team. Both skippers are fully focused on their respective games.

During a pre-match introduction, Fujisawa introduced herself, saying, “This is Fujisawa Satsuki. Take care of me.” When the host expressed doubts about whether she was the same Fujisawa from curling, she responded with a smile, confirming her identity.

Fujisawa’s Fitness Journey

Revealing her motivation for venturing into fitness, Fujisawa shared, “I often watch YouTube videos related to bodybuilding. As an athlete, I enjoy training, and I thought I wanted to compete someday while watching those videos.” She further emphasized that her decision to participate was made after consulting her teammates.

Following her third-place victory in the bikini class, Fujisawa expressed her satisfaction and gratitude, stating, “It was a delightful experience and a valuable opportunity.” However, she couldn’t help but express her disappointment, remarking, “I genuinely hoped to win.”

When asked about the possibility of future challenges in fitness competitions, Fujisawa replied, “As an active athlete, it’s challenging to give a definitive answer. Nevertheless, if an opportunity arises, I would certainly consider it.”

A Strawberry Connection

Notably, Fujisawa gained attention during the PyeongChang Olympics for her strawberry-eating habits during breaks to replenish nutrients. This amusing occurrence became popularly referred to as ‘mogumogu time’ in Japan. When Fujisawa mentioned the deliciousness of Korean strawberries during a press conference, it caught the attention of the National Association of Agricultural Cooperatives in Japan. Consequently, Jeon Nong presented Team Fujisawa with a whopping 180 boxes of strawberries. Fujisawa, acknowledging the gesture, savored locally produced strawberries at a press conference and declared, “I will relish these delicious Japanese strawberries and give my best.”

The unexpected journey of Satsuki Fujisawa, from the Olympic curling rink to the ‘MOLA CUP’ stage, exemplifies her versatility and determination. As she prepares for the upcoming Winter Olympics, all eyes will be on her performance in the ever-anticipated clash between Korea and Japan.

The current unexpected situation of Satsuki Fujisawa (32) of the Japanese national team who won the silver medal in women’s curling at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics was reported. Fujisawa is a person who drew attention by forming a rivalry with Kim Eun-jung of the Korean national team, who was affectionately called “Senior Glasses” at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics. At that time, the Korean national team was called ‘Team Kim’ and ‘Team Fujisawa’ was the name of the Japanese national team.

According to Japan’s Nikkan Sports on the 24th, Fujisawa took part in the ‘MOLA CUP’, a fitness competition held in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture on the 22nd. Fujisawa placed 3rd in the bikini class and 2nd in the open class.

‘Fitness World Japan’ (FWJ), which hosted the competition, released a highlight video of Fujisawa via YouTube on the 23rd. In this video, Fujisawa is interviewed in a green bikini outfit. Contrary to the attention he received for his young and cute face during the PyeongChang Olympics, he confidently showed off his strong muscular body.

In response to the host’s request to introduce himself before the match, Fujisawa said, “This is Fujisawa Satsuki. Take care of me,” he said. When the host asked, “Is that Fujisawa (curling player) okay?”, he smiled and replied, “Yes.”

Fujisawa said, “I often watch YouTube videos related to bodybuilding. Originally, I’m an athlete, so I like to train, so I thought I want to go out one day while watching the video.” He said he decided to take part after consulting his teammates beforehand.

In an interview conducted after winning third place in the bikini class, Fujisawa said, “It was a fun time. It was a valuable experience.” At the same time, he expressed regret, saying, “I wanted to win if possible because it was an honest game.”

When asked about the possibility of challenging again, he replied, “It’s hard to answer clearly because I’m still an active player, but I’d like to do it if the opportunity comes again.”

Meanwhile, Fujisawa is also known as one of the players who received 180 boxes of strawberries immediately after the PyeongChang Olympics. According to the foreign press, the reason he received so many strawberries was because of a word.

Fujisawa was eating strawberries to replenish nutrition during the Olympic games break, and this appearance became a hot topic in Japan, saying it was ‘mogumogu time’. Afterwards, when Fujisawa said during a press conference, “Korean strawberries were delicious,” the National Association of Agricultural Cooperatives in Japan stepped forward. Jeon Nong presented Team Fujisawa with 180 boxes of strawberries. At the time, Fujisawa tasted domestically produced strawberries at a press conference and said, “I will eat delicious Japanese strawberries and do my best.”
