The newly announced group includes economists with important backgrounds at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Chilean Treasury, and key roles in international trade negotiations, signaling a focus on economic stability and global integration.

Sebastián García: Bridging Academia and political Advocacy
Sebastián García, an economist currently pursuing advanced studies at the Paris School of Economics, brings a strong academic foundation and direct political experience. García has a long-standing connection with the Frente Amplio movement, having served as the economic spokesperson for Gonzalo Winter’s presidential primary candidacy. Their association dates back to their university days at the University of Chile, where they were active in the Federation of Students of the University of Chile (FECH). García further solidified his campaign experience by managing Winter’s first congressional election bid in 2017. His time in France also included an influential role as an assistant to renowned French economist Thomas Piketty,underscoring his commitment to progressive economic thought and research.
Rodrigo Valdés: A Seasoned Economist with International acumen
Rodrigo Valdés, an economist with a distinguished career, holds degrees from the University of Chile and a Master’s from the University of Maryland. His professional journey includes over two decades as an official at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where he gained extensive experience in global economic policy and financial stability. Valdés also served in the Chilean Treasury,providing him with firsthand knowledge of domestic fiscal management. Currently,he operates as an independent consultant and presides over the Port Company of Valparaíso.His political engagement was notable in 2017 when he was a member of Alejandro Guillier’s presidential campaign, demonstrating his willingness to lend his expertise to electoral efforts.
Nicolás Eyzaguirre: A Deep Dive into Public Finance and Tax Policy
Nicolás Eyzaguirre, a commercial and master engineer in economic analysis from the University of Chile, further bolsters the team with his deep understanding of public finance.He completed a doctorate in Economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst before returning to Chile in 2022. Eyzaguirre’s public service record includes a significant tenure as co-coordinator of Tax Policy in the Treasury until 2024. He currently holds a senior position at Dipres,where he heads the Department of Public Revenue. While contributing to the campaign, Eyzaguirre will be on a leave of absence without salary from Dipres. A member of the Communist Party (PC),he was also a key economic manager for Daniel Jadue’s presidential candidacy in 2021. His prior experience also includes work in the macroeconomic area at Teatinos 120 during Michelle Bachelet’s second government, highlighting his broad exposure to Chilean economic policy-making.
Ricardo Rosales: Architect of Trade Agreements and International Relations
ricardo Rosales, a commercial and master engineer from the University of Chile, is recognized as a principal architect of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between chile and the United States in the early 2000s. His career has been marked by significant contributions to Chile’s international economic relations. He previously served as director of the General Directorate of International Economic Relations (Direcon, now Subrei) and also directed International Trade and ECLAC integration. Similar to Sebastián García, Rosales was an active participant in the 2017 presidential campaign of Alejandro Guillier, showcasing his commitment to shaping economic policy through political engagement.
