USA Cricket Team Faces Setback as Jasdeep Singh is Ruled Out of T20 World Cup

The USA national cricket team has suffered a blow ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 with the confirmation that fast bowler Jasdeep Singh will be unable to participate due to a shoulder injury. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved Ehsan Adil as Singh’s replacement, according to a statement released on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

The injury occurred during a warm-up match against New Zealand at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Singh sustained the injury while attempting a diving catch off a shot played by Devon Conway, landing awkwardly on his right shoulder. He was immediately attended to by team medical staff and transported to a hospital for further evaluation.

Adil, a Pakistan-born cricketer with experience in international cricket, has previously represented Pakistan in three Test matches and six One Day International (ODI) games. While he has not yet played for the USA, his eligibility for the squad was confirmed by the ICC’s Event Technical Committee. The ICC stated that the approval of the Event Technical Committee is a necessary step before a replacement player can be officially added to the team roster.

Jasdeep Singh’s journey to representing the USA is a notable one. Born in New York, he spent a portion of his childhood in Punjab, India, before returning to the United States and dedicating himself to the sport. He first appeared for the USA senior team in 2015 and, after overcoming injury challenges, solidified his position as a key player starting in 2018. Throughout his career with the USA, Singh has participated in 45 ODI matches and 30 T20 International (T20I) games, securing 54 wickets in ODIs and 31 wickets in T20Is.

Singh played a significant role in the USA’s impressive performance at the 2024 T20 World Cup, where the team achieved a historic victory over Pakistan. He notably dismissed Pakistan’s star batsman, Babar Azam, during that landmark match. His absence will undoubtedly be felt by the American side.

The addition of Ehsan Adil provides the USA team with an experienced pace bowling option as they prepare for the challenges of the 2026 T20 World Cup. Adil’s prior international experience is expected to be a valuable asset to the squad. The USA will be looking to build on the momentum generated by their performance in the previous World Cup, and Adil’s inclusion aims to bolster their chances of success in the upcoming tournament.

The Event Technical Committee’s swift approval of Adil’s replacement underscores the importance of having a robust squad prepared for unforeseen circumstances in major international tournaments. The USA team will now focus on integrating Adil into the team dynamics and finalizing their preparations for the T20 World Cup 2026.
