Jeon Do-yeon Praised by Director Simon Stone for Role in ‘Cherry Blossom Garden’

[OSEN=장우영 기자] Simon Stone, director of the drama ‘Cherry Blossom Garden’, praised Jeon Do-yeon.

On the 23rd, a production presentation for the drama ‘Cherry Blossom Garden’ (directed by Simon Stone) was held at LG Seoul Arts Center in Magok-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul.

‘The Cherry Orchard’ is an adaptation of the novel ‘The Cherry Orchard’ by the great Russian writer Anton Chekhov with a Korean setting. It also raises expectations as it is the first time world-renowned director Simon Stone has collaborated with Korean actors. The key question is how Anton Chekhov’s ‘The Cherry Orchard’, a classic masterpiece in the world of theatre, will be transformed in Korea.

Jeon Do-yeon played the role of Song Do-young, who left for the United States and returned after her son’s death. Through ‘The Cherry Orchard’, she raises expectations by attempting a drama for the first time in 27 years since she appeared in ‘Taming Rita’ in 1997.

Director Simon Stone said, “I told the director of the center that we needed Meryl Streep from Korea. It is difficult to appear attractive in the role of a female protagonist. No matter what you do, you have to look beautiful and attractive, and Jeon Do-yeon is attractive regardless of whether she’s playing a villain or a good character. So I thought it was appropriate. He explained the reason for the casting, saying, “There is a need to connect with the audience through a human aspect, and the most suitable actor is Jeon Do-yeon.”

He continued, “Park Hae-soo is my favorite actor. It is intense, but also fragile. The ability to go back and forth between these is excellent. He said, “He’s not confident and nervous at the beginning, but he shows intensity towards the end of the work, and I think Park Hae-soo is the one who can pull it off well .”

Simon Stone also said, “Korean actors have a unique status, unlike actors around the world. Although Korean actors are steeped in tragic situations, they are also good at handling comedic situations. These are actors who can cross genres. “I’m the luckiest person in the world,” he added.

In the words of Simon Stone, Jeon Do-yeon said, “I was impressed by the director’s work, but I was afraid to be able to reveal myself fully, so I wondered how I could refuse without being a coward. But when I saw the play again on the screen, my blood boiled as an actor. “So I decided to do it because I felt I had to do it,” he said.

‘Cherry Blossom Garden’ will be performed at LG Seoul Arts Center between June 4th and July 7th. /elnino8919@osen.co.kr
