Jets Hire Frank Reich as Offensive Coordinator
The New York Jets have hired Frank Reich as their offensive coordinator, , bringing the veteran coach back to the NFL after a one-year stint with Stanford University. Reich is expected to handle play-calling duties under head coach Aaron Glenn.
The hiring follows a series of interviews, including an in-person meeting with Reich on , and virtual interviews last week with Darrell Bevell, Ronald Curry, Greg Roman, and Lunda Wells. The Jets previously interviewed Reich on .
Reich, 64, served as Stanford’s interim head coach during the 2025 season after being appointed by Cardinal GM Andrew Luck, whom he previously coached with the Indianapolis Colts. Prior to his time in college football, Reich spent five seasons (2018-2022) as the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, compiling a 40-33-1 regular season record and leading the team to playoff appearances in 2018 and 2020. He also served as head coach of the Carolina Panthers in 2023, finishing with a 1-10 record.
Before his head coaching roles, Reich made a name for himself as an offensive coordinator. He helped the Philadelphia Eagles secure a Super Bowl LII victory while serving as their offensive coordinator from 2016-2017. He also held the same position with the San Diego Chargers (2014-2015) and coached wide receivers for the Arizona Cardinals in 2012.
Reich’s NFL coaching career began with the Indianapolis Colts in 2006, starting as a coaching intern. He progressed through various roles with the Colts, including offensive coaching staff assistant (2008), quarterbacks coach (2009-2010), and wide receivers coach (2011).
A native of Freeport, New York, Reich also had a 14-year career as an NFL player, primarily as a backup quarterback. He was originally drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the third round of the 1985 NFL Draft and went on to play for the Bills, Panthers, Jets, and Lions. He appeared in 10 games and started 7 for the Jets during the 1996 season, where he was a teammate of current Jets head coach Aaron Glenn. Reich also appeared in 14 postseason games, including Super Bowl XXVII with the Buffalo Bills.
The Jets’ search for an offensive coordinator comes after a 3-14 season under Glenn and the departure of former offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand. The team also recently hired Brian Duker as defensive coordinator, following a situation involving a potential agreement with Don “Wink” Martindale that ultimately fell through due to a disagreement over play-calling responsibilities.
