Updated May 30, 2025
Tabletop RPG fans can soon delve into a new HeroQuest adventure crafted by actor and enthusiast Joe Manganiello. The crypt of Perpetual Darkness Quest Pack, previously a crowdfunding exclusive, will be available to all players starting Aug. 1. Though, some local game stores may have copies as early as July 15.
Manganiello’s expansion for the classic dungeon-crawling fantasy board game, HeroQuest, includes 10 quests that take players into an underground lair to find a hidden crypt and a powerful artifact. The set also features a new black Dragon miniature, black dice, character sheets, foil-embellished game cards, and cardboard tile sheets.
The Crypt of Perpetual Darkness Quest Pack is available for preorder on Amazon for $35. Players will need either the HeroQuest Game System or HeroQuest: First Light to play the expansion.
HeroQuest, designed for two to five players, casts one player as the evil boss while others control heroes like the Barbarian, Wizard, Dwarf, or Elf. The game blends combat and exploration with the customization and replayability of customary RPGs.
The HeroQuest Game System (2nd Edition) is available for around $92 on Amazon. A smaller, standalone expansion, HeroQuest: First Light, costs about $50.
What’s next
With the release of The Crypt of Perpetual Darkness, HeroQuest players can look forward to even more immersive adventures and custom quests, expanding the game’s already rich world.
