Actress Johanna Wonek has returned to Vienna as a member of the new ensemble at the Volkstheater,under the direction of Jan Philipp Gloger. She recently debuted to acclaim in the stage adaptation of Michael Haneke’s film “Caché,” alongside Sebastian Rudolph and directed by Felicitas Brucker.
Early Career and Diversification
Born in Baden-Württemberg in 1975,Wonek studied at the Wiener Reinhardt Seminar and spent over 15 years performing at the Burgtheater and the Salzburg Festival,appearing in productions directed by Andrea breth and Luc bondy. She also explored opera, dance theater with Pina bausch in Wuppertal, and film roles in productions such as “Hierankl,” “Aimée and Jaguar,” “Die Päptin,” and “The Baader Meinhof Complex.”

Wonek discusses her return to Vienna, her reasons for joining the Volkstheater, and memories of collaborations with Paulus Manker and her experiences during the “Golden” years of the Burgtheater.
