Thompson, originally from Maghery, Co.Armagh, dedicated his life to education, leaving an indelible mark on the community of Adare. He is remembered fondly by former students and colleagues for his warmth, dedication, and unwavering commitment to fostering a love of learning.
“John was more than just a principal; he was a mentor and a friend to so many,” said a former colleague. “He had a genuine passion for education and a deep understanding of the needs of his students. He will be deeply missed.”
Thompson is survived by his devoted wife Geraldine, his sons Ronan and Shane, daughters-in-law natalie and Julia, and his cherished grandchildren Patrick, Roisin, and Emile. He is also mourned by his sisters Mary, Annie, and Josephine, and also a wide circle of extended family and friends.
His passing is preceded by his sister Kathleen and brothers Patrick, Frank, and Richard.

A Requiem Mass will be held in honor of John Thompson at Holy Trinity Church in Adare on Saturday, December 14th, at 11:00 am. the Mass will be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person. [Link to livestream]
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the dedicated staff of Park Lodge Medical Center, the Community Health nurses, the carers from HSE and Carebright, the Special Palliative Care Community Service at milford Hospice, the Alzheimer’s Unit in Adare, and O’Brien’s Pharmacy for their compassionate care and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Milford Care Centre, the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland, or the Irish Cancer Society.
