John Hannafin: Funeral & Death Notice – Limerick | RIP.ie

Limerick Man, John Hannafin, Dies Following Brief Illness

John Hannafin, a resident of Kincora Park, Southill, Limerick, and formerly of Duxtown, Rathkeale, Co. Limerick, passed away peacefully on , following a short illness. He was receiving care at Milford Care Centre at the time of his death.

Mr. Hannafin is remembered as a beloved husband to his wife, Noreen, and a dearly loved father to his seven children: Marian, Patricia, Josephine, John, Joseph, Paul, and Declan. His family circle extends to include his son-in-law, Dan, and daughters-in-law Liz, Siobhan, and Karen. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The death notice, published on , also acknowledges the importance of Mr. Hannafin’s siblings, brother Tom and his wife Kitty, and sister Carmel, as well as his numerous nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours, and friends.

Reposing will take place at Thompson Funeral Home, Thomas Street, on , from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. The funeral procession will then arrive at St. Mary’s Church, Rathkeale, on , for a Requiem Mass at 12:00 noon. Following the Mass, Mr. Hannafin will be laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

The passing of John Hannafin has prompted an outpouring of condolences from the community, with many sharing messages of sympathy through online condolence books. Messages express deep sadness and remember Mr. Hannafin as a kind and helpful individual. One message from Ronan McMahon of Ennistymon offered “Deepest sympathies to Trish and the Hannafin family on the passing of your father John. May he rest in peace.”

Aidan and Phil Supple of Rathkeale extended “Sincere sympathy to TOM and all the HANNAFIN family on the sad passing of JOHN .May he rest in peace.” Others highlighted his positive impact on those around him. Betty O’Carroll recalled his willingness to help, stating that when she worked in the Naionra in Southill House, “He was always there to help in anyway he could. A thorough gentleman.”

Trish Hannafin received numerous individual messages of support, with Aine Mc Williams writing, “Condolences to Trish and all the family and friends of John. May he rest in peace.” Patricia Lydon remembered her father as a gentleman who would be sadly missed, stating, “Condolences to John’s wife son’s daughters brother Tom sister Carmel and extended family on Johns passing. John was a gentleman he will be sadly missed by all that new him. May his gentle soul rest in peace….”
