Joint exercise between South Korea-US-Japan tomorrow… North Korea’s response, but Japan’s ‘Chinese response’?

The four-day joint exercise between South Korea and the United States with the US nuclear aircraft carrier ended today.

Tomorrow, a South Korea-US-Japan trilateral joint exercise that even includes Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force will be held in the East Sea for the first time in five years.

Although a joint response to North Korea’s nuclear and missile threat is intended, some analysts say Japan’s calculations may be different.

Reporter Hong Eui-pyo reports.

The nuclear aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan sails through the East Sea.

The Korean Navy’s Grand Gwanggaeto and the destroyer Aegis Seoaeryu Seongryong are escorted by them.

The joint ROK-US exercise ends today, but tomorrow there will be a trilateral joint exercise in which even Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force participated.

Korea-US-Japan joint exercise for the first time in five years since 2017.

The training location is on the high seas, more than 150 kilometers east of Dokdo.

The South Korean naval destroyer Munmu the Great, the US nuclear carrier ‘Ronald Reagan’, etc. will participate, and the Japanese destroyer Asahi will join.

This is a 2018 Indian style scene where the Japanese self defense force’s Asahi is the latest ship to have a submarine periscope detection radar.

The South Korean military also said that the main purpose of this exercise is to develop the ability to detect North Korean submarines that have submarine-launched ballistic missiles.

However, as the training is taking place for the first time in five years, it seems that the meaning given by each country is greater.

The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) announced that it would conduct exercises in the Sea of Japan to “realize a free and open Indo-Pacific.”

He recognized the purpose of keeping China under control in the Indo-Pacific, and seems to have considered the recent situation of Chinese intelligence vessels entering Japanese waters.

“We are trying to develop military capabilities, but basically, what is the reason why Japan wants to develop this? At the end of the day, it’s basically a public check.”

It is anticipated that this exercise will have consequences if it is carried out while diplomatic issues such as the lifting of Japan’s economic sanctions and the issue of forced labour, but also military conflicts such as the ‘patrol plane incident’ have not been resolved. .
