Renee Paquette and Jon Moxley have joined an All Elite Wrestling (AEW) initiative to raise awareness and funds for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) research.

The challenge follows a nomination from Britt Baker, who previously posted a video featuring Rebel and Gail Kim dumping ice water on her. Baker had been nominated by Sean Dean and subsequently extended the challenge to a group of AEW personnel, including Paquette, Moxley, Chris Jericho, Adam Cole, Kris Statlander, Orange Cassidy, and Thunder Rosa.

AEW Support for Rebel and ALS Research

The current wave of Ice Bucket Challenges within the promotion is tied to the diagnosis of AEW performer Rebel, born Tanea Brooks. Rebel announced in April that she has ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease. Rebel has been a member of the AEW roster since 2019.

To support those affected by the disease, AEW launched new Rebel merchandise last month. The company stated that 100 percent of the proceeds from these sales go to individuals and organizations dealing with ALS.

Medical Impact of ALS

ALS is a disease that destroys nerve cells within the spinal cord and the brain. This process halts motor signals to voluntary muscles, which results in muscle wasting, respiratory failure, and paralysis. There is currently no cure for the condition.

Medical data indicates the average survival time following a diagnosis is two to four years. However, approximately 10 percent of patients survive for longer than 10 years.

Expanding the ALS Challenge Nominations

Following her own participation in the challenge, Renee Paquette nominated several other figures in the wrestling industry to record and share their own videos. Her nominations include:

  • Harley Cameron
  • RJ City
  • Tony Schiavone
  • Paul Wight
  • Eddie Kingston
  • Willow Nightingale
  • Christian Cage
  • Adam Copeland

Cage and Copeland are currently the World Tag Team Champions. The challenge continues to cycle through the AEW roster and associated talent to increase visibility for ALS research funding.
