Fenerbahce coach Jose Mourinho congratulated the referee who sent him off sarcastically, his former club as one of the best referees in the world after his side’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the Europa League on Thursday.
After Christian Eriksen’s early goal in the second half, Morocco’s Youssef N-Nessiri equalized with a header for the home side.
However, Mourinho was the center of attention as usual, and received a red card in the second half after a heated argument with French referee Clement Terpin, who claimed he was monitoring his behavior and watching the match at the same time.
The Portuguese coach said in a statement to TNT Sports: “The referee said something amazing to me. He said he could see the movement inside the penalty area and my actions on the touchline at the same time.
He added, “I congratulate him because he is undoubtedly amazing. During the match, at a hundred miles an hour, one eye was on the penalty kick and the other on my behavior on the bench. So he is the best referee in the world.”
Moreno praised his team, which he said was a better team than yesterday, Thursday.
“We gave a great performance. If we had played like this in the Turkish league, we would have crushed everything because of course we played against a team that is at a higher level than us,” he said.
He added, “We are suffering from injuries. We have to overcome a ridiculous dilemma. Our performance was exceptional. I couldn’t ask for more from the players.”
Mourinho – who was sacked from coaching the English team in 2018 – continued, “I know that the English media will say that United did not perform well, but I think it would be fair to say that we played an exceptional match and we were better. Compared to them. It’s a good result for Manchester United.”
United coach Erik ten Haag was disappointed with the result, as his side have won once in their last 11 matches in the European Championship.
“Obviously when you lead, (a draw) shouldn’t happen,” he said, adding, “We had a lot of chances to score the second goal. I’m disappointed not to win.”
He concluded, “Fenerbahçe is a very good club and has very good fans and some good players. We should have kept the ball better in the first half. It’s a good team led by a good coach. It’s not a bad point. But we want to win every match. want to win
