Journalist Christo Grosew changes place of residence

Hristo Grozev has repeatedly revealed stories that probably didn’t go down well in the Kremlin. Now the journalist can no longer go to his place of residence.

The well-known Bulgarian investigative journalist Hristo Grozew has left his adopted home of Vienna for security reasons. This is reported by the Austrian weekly newspaper “Falter”. Accordingly, the journalist received anonymous tips that the Russian secret service in Vienna may be after him: “I suspect that there are more Russian agents, informers and henchmen in the city than police officers,” Grosew told the newspaper.

The journalist had lived in Vienna for 20 years and, according to the report, was under police protection for his revelations. Last December, the Russian Ministry of the Interior put him on the wanted list. As a result, Grosew received warnings from security circles, which is why he has not yet returned to Austria from a trip to the USA.

Grozev is the head of the Bellingcat research platform and has already published extensive research into the Russian power apparatus: Among other things, he revealed in 2018 that the Russian military intelligence service GRU had poisoned ex-agent Sergei Skripal with the neurotoxin Novichok. Likewise, Grozev uncovered the identity of the perpetrator in the so-called Tiergarten murder and revealed that the Russian domestic secret service FSB was responsible for the poisoning of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny.
