Wolf Aaron, the 28-year-old silver medalist in the mixed team event at the Paris Olympics in judo, recently appeared as a guest on the Nippon Television program “Meshidora: Kanechika & Shinnosuke’s Gourmet Drive.” During the show, he shared his thoughts on weigh-ins and competitive eating.
Aaron revealed that he has been invited to participate in several competitive eating shows, but he wasn’t sure how much he could eat. However, he claimed that he can consume up to 3.5 kilograms of food. He emphasized that he usually maintains a balanced diet and eats the amount his body can handle. Aaron also mentioned that he loves eating and has always had a natural body shape that allows him to eat without worrying about gaining weight.
Aaron continued to discuss the challenges of maintaining weight in judo. He explained that some judo athletes struggle with eating and rapidly losing weight. In contrast, Aaron said that he weighs less than 110kg now, which is close to his competition weight of 100kg. He revealed that judo athletes have a weigh-in the day before the match, and they must be under 100kg at that time. However, there is a rule that allows athletes to lose up to 5% on the day of the match, which means they can weigh up to 105kg.
Aaron shared that he can easily gain weight after weighing in. He explained that his body is like a dry sponge that quickly absorbs water, causing him to gain weight rapidly. When asked about this phenomenon, Aaron said, “Imagine putting water into a dry sponge. It’s really like that.” Actor Mitsushima Shinnosuke, who was hosting the show, responded by saying, “That’s so easy to imagine!”
