AMD, Solar Stocks, and Ford Face July Challenges

⁢ Updated July 01, 2025

After ⁣a strong June, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) faces high expectations as ⁢it prepares to ‍release it’s quarterly ⁣results later this⁣ month. The company’s stock surged 28% in June, fueled by its ⁢Advancing AI⁢ event, where it unveiled a new graphics processing unit ⁢(GPU) ⁤to rival Nvidia’s ⁤Blackwell chips.AMD also⁣ announced its ‘Helios’ rack-scale system, ⁣set to compete with Nvidia’s⁤ Vera Rubin⁣ series starting in 2026.

Analysts have reacted positively.⁣ Piper Sandler raised ⁣its price target ‍on AMD, calling ‘Helios’ pivotal for growth. Bank of America acknowledged Nvidia’s continued AI chip leadership but recognized AMD ⁢as the “next-best AI vendor.” However, potential semiconductor tariffs, under investigation by⁤ the Commerce Department⁤ at President trump’s request,⁤ could negatively affect the stock this month. ‍Since the start of ⁢the year, AMD ⁢shares ⁣are ⁢up more then 17%.

Simultaneously occurring, solar⁢ stocks are bracing for a potential blow from the “One ⁣Big Lovely⁣ Bill”⁤ moving through Congress. The Senate version phases ⁢out tax credits for wind and solar‍ projects by 2027, a less severe measure than the House bill,⁢ which repeals credits for projects not ⁢yet started within‍ 60 days of enactment. A reconciled bill⁢ will soon reach President Trump. The Senate bill offers a slight advantage to U.S. manufacturers like First⁤ Solar (FSLR) by imposing new taxes on imported⁢ renewables equipment and additional penalties for projects using‍ equipment from china.

Ford (F) is also ⁤set to report quarterly results late in July, with investors closely monitoring its guidance on the impact of‍ tariffs on corporate earnings. the carmaker previously suspended its full-year guidance, citing tariff uncertainty, estimating a $2.5 billion hit but hoping to offset $1⁣ billion. With tariffs on imported vehicles ⁣and auto parts now in effect, Ford’s results and financial projections should reveal the true cost. Ford shares rose 4.5% in June, bringing the year-to-date ‍increase to nearly 10%.

what’s ⁤next

Market watchers will be ⁤paying close attention to AMD’s earnings report, developments around the “One Big Beautiful Bill” and Ford’s revised outlook to gauge the impact of tariffs and legislative changes on these key sectors.
