Junaid Khan Criticizes Babar Azam’s Captaincy and Pakistan’s Performance in World Cup 2023

Junaid Khan Criticizes Babar Azam’s Captaincy

Pakistan’s performance in the World Cup 2023 has sparked a wave of criticism towards former captain Babar Azam. Fast bowler Junaid Khan has joined the chorus of disapproval, stating that Babar lacked the leadership qualities displayed by his predecessor, Sarfaraz Ahmed.

Babar’s Batting Versus His Captaincy

While acknowledging Babar’s prowess as a batsman, Junaid expressed disappointment in his captaincy abilities. “Babar is one of the best batsmen in the world, but he is not exactly leading the team,” Junaid remarked, highlighting a significant difference from Sarfaraz Ahmed’s consistent improvement in the role.

Following their defeat in the 2023 World Cup, Babar made the decision to step down from the captaincy, signaling a possible acknowledgement of the criticisms against his leadership.

Playing Against Weaker Opponents

Junaid also emphasized that Pakistan’s rise in the ICC rankings, particularly in the ODI format against New Zealand, was achieved by playing against weaker teams. “We came first by playing against weaker teams. Babar had learned nothing from leading Pakistan. He is a world-class batsman but he is not a good captain,” Junaid lamented.

The World Cup Final and Pat Cummins’ Leadership

When discussing the World Cup final between India and Australia, Junaid commended Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, for his aggressive and successful leadership. “Pat Cummins led Australia very aggressively and won the sixth World Cup,” Junaid noted, drawing a sharp contrast to Babar’s leadership style.

It appears that Babar’s captaincy has come under significant scrutiny, with Junaid’s criticisms adding to the growing chorus of voices questioning his suitability for the role.

Pakistan could not perform well under the leadership of Babar Azam in the World Cup 2023. Following this, a lot of criticism was raised against Babur’s captaincy. Now Pakistani fast bowler Junaid Khan is also speaking against Babar. He opined that Babar does not excel in captaincy like Sarfaraz Ahmed.

Junaid says that Babar is one of the best batsmen in the world but he is not exactly leading the team. After the defeat in the 2023 World Cup, Babar resigned from the captaincy.

“Babur did not try to improve his captaincy. You could see that Sarfaraz Ahmed is improving it every day. We have done well by defeating India to win the Champions Trophy final and top the ICC T20 rankings,” Junaid Nadir Ali spoke on the podcast.

In the home series match against New Zealand, Pakistan came first in the ODI format. But Junaid says Pakistan achieved this feat by defeating weaker teams.

“We came first by playing against weaker teams. Babur had learned nothing from leading Pakistan. He is a world-class batsman but he is not a good captain,’ Junaid added.

In the final of the World Cup 2023, India and Australia met and India reached the final after winning 10 matches in a row. But Junaid had said that the work of Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, who won the final, was the best.

“Pat Cummins led Australia very aggressively and won the sixth World Cup,” said Junaid.
