Hirotaro Kato, the lawyer representing Japan national football team member Junya Ito (30), who has been criminally prosecuted for sexual assault, appeared in a video on Yomiuri TV’s “Miyaneya” broadcast on the 12th, and spoke of what he had said with Ito after the revealed match. His agent suggested that being on the pitch in France may have had a positive effect on Ito, saying: “He doesn’t seem tired and his condition seems to be improving mentally.”

Ito participated fully in the match against his team, Stade Reims, played on the 11th. Even though the team lost, the coach said: “Ito has no problems. The team welcomes him.”

Lawyer Kato said: “Since it was in France, everyone was rooting for me and I managed to stay on the pitch,” but added: “If it had happened in Japan, maybe it wouldn’t have happened like this.” He stressed that being a member of a foreign club team was an advantage.

He has upcoming World Cup qualifiers and his participation is uncertain depending on the outcome of the criminal charges. Ito plans to seek damages of more than 200 million yen from the woman in a civil lawsuit, but she said: “If a situation arises where she is unable to participate in a match, the amount of damages will be increased. ”
